This New Year I’m talking all about Self-Care as a mum and how important it is to take that time for us. Every week I’ll be bringing you a new guest blog post with some top tips and hopefully throughout the next few months we’ll have put together an amazing list of different ideas for self-care.
This week is Laura Bland.
Tell us a bit about yourself - who you are, what you do and a bit about your family:
I’m Laura, 37yr old mum to my beautiful 6 year old daughter Callie, dedicated partner to Leigh, number 1 best selling author and I’m a fitness coach and mentor. My goal in life is to inspire and empower as many women as possible through physical fitness and taking back control of your own life.
What do you do for self-care as a mum and how do you make time for self-care?
For me self care takes many forms. I work out and also run on a regular basis and both these give me time to be in my own head space and to shut off from others. I also enjoy taking a soak in the bath and having a good book with me and a couple of times a year I’ll really indulge and go for a nice relaxing massage. I think self care can come in any form really as long as it’s something that you enjoy and you are doing it solely for YOU, don’t think of it as being selfish. If I take time for myself it makes me a better mum and partner as it’s helps me to let go of frustrations.
What are your three top tips for self-care for mums?
Putting yourself first for a change isn’t selfish, and why shouldn’t you be a priority?
Find something you love and do it just for you.
Take 5 minutes everyday to tell yourself a few positive things - I am a good mum, I like myself, I am proud of myself etc.
Are there any products/businesses/podcasts ect that you would recommend for self-care?
I really enjoy listening to Rachel Hollis I find her to be very down to earth and although she is this crazy successful writer and businesswoman she is also just a mum.
